The draft programme is now available online and registration is open for the EENA 2026 Conference and Exhibition, taking place in Riga, Latvia, from 15 to 17 April.

The EENA Conference 2026 will take place in Riga (Latvia) from 15 to 17 April. It brings together over a hundred international experts in emergency services. This year, more than 700 participants and 25 exhibitors from around fifty countries will share their experiences and explore the latest developments in the field.

Key topics

The programme covers several major themes. Artificial intelligence features prominently: how can it be usefully applied in emergency call centres (known as PSAPs, or Public Safety Answering Points — the facilities that answer emergency calls such as 911 in the US or 112 in Europe)? What lessons can be learned from North American experiences? Is Europe falling behind? A dedicated panel will bring together different perspectives.

112 resilience is the focus of several sessions. 112 is the European emergency number, accessible in all EU countries. Speakers will discuss ways to ensure it remains operational under all circumstances: multi-channel approaches (voice, SMS, video…), infrastructure strengthening, and satellite solutions. One session will specifically address maintaining emergency communications during wartime — a pressing issue given the ongoing situation in Ukraine.

Public Warning systems will also be a central topic. These are the systems used to quickly alert the population in case of imminent danger, such as Wireless Emergency Alerts in the US or EU-Alert in Europe. Sessions will cover technological developments, alerting strategies, how to craft effective messages, and how to prepare citizens before a crisis strikes.

Other topics on the agenda include: NG112 (Next Generation 112), the modernisation of the European emergency number to incorporate new technologies; video communications to 112, which enable deaf or hard-of-hearing people to call using sign language; eCall, the in-vehicle system that automatically triggers an emergency call in the event of a serious accident; improving caller location accuracy; and call-taker wellbeing — including a session on handling suicidal calls, a critical challenge for these front-line professionals.

Beyond the conference sessions, networking opportunities allow participants to share experiences and build useful connections for their projects.
